NOYIFF

New
Order

The birth of the New Order Youth International Film Festival (NOYIFF) stems from our emphasis on and expectations for the power of youth cinema. We firmly believe that young people are the greatest treasure of a nation and even the entire world. As a platform dedicated to the youth, we are committed to ensuring that young people have a voice in every detail of NOYIFF. Therefore, the main visual design for the inaugural NOYIFF was completed by a professor from the School of Design at Northwest University in China, along with his post-graduate students.

Starting from an idea in early 2024, under the guidance and leadership of Professors Zhang Hui and Gao Zimin, the task of designing the main visual theme for NOYIFF was entrusted to post-graduate design students PengRuixian, Yao Shiqi, and Qiu Gefei from Northwest University.

With tight deadlines and heavy tasks, the NOYIFF organising committee held countless cross-border online meetings with the two professors and three students over the course of a few short months. Throughout the entire creative process, from concept to implementation, the professors and students devoted a significant amount of time and energy to the main visual design of NOYIFF. They conducted numerous research sessions, and behind every proposal lay profound design concepts and meanings. We meticulously selected from the initial 29 proposals, ultimately narrowing it down to three. After a series of evaluations, one final design was chosen. With passion and a rigorous approach, the professors and students gradually transformed the initial abstract idea into a perfect piece that fully embodies the spirit of NOYIFF.

Inspiration

1. Film Strip

The line in the logo is a transformed representation of a film strip, highlighting the core theme of the film festival.

2. Initials of New Order

The flowing line imitates the handwritten initials "N" and "O" of "New Order," while also representing the phrase "Dare to say NO" from NOYIFF, emphasising the festival's call to youth.

3. Kiwi Bird

The lines in the logo are initially derived from the side profile of a Kiwi bird, underscoring NOYIFF's location in New Zealand.

4. Sprout

Another source of inspiration for the logo's lines is a sprout breaking through the soil, symbolising the unstoppable vitality and limitless future of young filmmakers.

5. Break and Rebuild

The overall shape of the logo is a square divided into two parts by a dynamic line, symbolising NOYIFF's hope that young filmmakers embrace a fearless spirit of "breaking the frame", embodying the innovative spirit of "breaking to rebuild."
