芦苇在西安长大,有丰富的人生经历,曾从事农业、工人和厨师工作,后转向舞台设计和美工方面的职业。
1982年,他开始了编剧生涯,编写了《魂系蓝天》、《最后的疯狂》和《疯狂的代价》等影片的剧本。1992年,他与陈凯歌导演合作,担任《霸王别姬》的编剧。这部电影基本上是根据芦苇的第二版剧本拍摄的,并最终获得了戛纳电影节金棕榈奖。后来,1994年,他与张艺谋导演和余华编剧合作,担任电影《活着》的编剧,该片获得了戛纳电影节评审团大奖等多个奖项。
1995年,芦苇开始尝试导演,执导了个人首部电影《西夏路迢迢》,并获得了中国电影金鸡奖导演处女作奖。2013年,他出版了个人首部图书《电影编剧的秘密》。2016年,他因电影《狼图腾》入围中国电影导演协会奖年度编剧奖提名。
1997年,他编写的电影剧本《星塘的阿芝——齐白石的故事》获得第1届夏衍电影文学剧本奖二等奖。此后,他开始在影视幕后担任其他角色。他担任传记剧《胡景翼》的艺术总监和编剧统筹,在电影《柳青》中担任剧本指导。2022年,他出版了图书《电影编剧没有秘密》。2023年2月25日,他担任电影《拨浪鼓咚咚响》的监制,帮助该片获得中国电影金鸡奖最佳儿童片。7月20日,他担任古装史诗电影《封神第一部:朝歌风云》的剧本顾问。
LU Wei, who grew up in Xi'an, has had a rich life experience, having worked in agriculture, as a worker, and as a cook before switching to a career in set design and art direction.
In 1982, he began his screenwriting career with the film "Soul Tied to the Blue Sky." He subsequently wrote the screenplays for the films "The Last Madness" and "The Price of Madness." In 1992, he collaborated with director Chen Kaige as the screenwriter for the film "Farewell My Concubine." This film was primarily based on LU Wei's second version of the script and went on to win the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Later, in 1994, he collaborated with director Zhang Yimou and writer Yu Hua as the screenwriter for the film "To Live," which won the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, among other awards.
In 1995, LU Wei ventured into directing with his debut film "Far Away in the Xi Xia," which earned him the Best Directorial Debut award at the 17th China Film Golden Rooster Awards. In 2013, he published his first book, "The Secret of Screenwriting." In 2016, he was nominated for Screenwriter of the Year at the 7th Annual Awards of the China Film Directors' Guild for his work on the film "Wolf Totem."
In 1997, his screenplay "Azi of Xingtang – The Story of Qi Baishi" won the second prize at the inaugural Xia Yan Film Literature Script Award.
Subsequently, he took on various behind-the-scenes roles in film and television. He served as the artistic director and head screenwriter for the biographical drama "Hu Jingyi," and as a script advisor for the film "Liu Qing." In 2022, he published the book "There Are No Secrets in Screenwriting." On February 25, 2023, he worked as the producer of the film "The Drum Sound," which won the Best Children's Film at the 36th China Film Golden Rooster Awards. On July 20, he served as a script consultant for the historical epic film "Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms."
