Re: Frame at UoA | Bringing More Films onto Campus

On 25 September, NOYIFF brought Re: Frame to the University of Auckland.

This time, we presented six short films selected by NOYIFF from filmmakers around the world — BARK, HARD TO SAY, NINOCHKA, MOVING, THE BIRD TRAP, and MOMENT OF CHOICE.

Some of these films had received awards or recognition at film festivals. Others simply stood out to us as works we felt deserved to be seen by more people.

The six films came from different creative backgrounds and carried very different voices. From family and relationships to growing up, difficult choices and goodbyes — and some of the stranger, more complicated situations life can throw at us — each film offered its own way of seeing the world.

And that is exactly what Re: Frame is about.

We want to take the film festival beyond traditional screening spaces and bring the work NOYIFF discovers around the world directly onto university campuses and in front of younger audiences.

A short film may last only a few minutes, but within that time, it can introduce us to someone else’s life, another culture, an unfamiliar emotion, or a completely different way of telling a story.

We also believe that a film does not need a long list of awards or festival laurels to deserve an audience.

Sometimes, we simply discover a great story, an interesting cinematic voice, or an emerging filmmaker whose work we believe more people should see.

That is why Re: Frame brings together both festival-recognised films and works that we simply loved and wanted to share.

You don’t need to study film, and you don’t need to already call yourself a filmmaker.

Being curious about cinema is enough.

A special thank you to the University of Auckland and the UoA Film Society for supporting this campus screening, and to everyone who joined us on 25 September and spent the evening watching films with us.

From one campus to the next.

Re: Frame continues.
